Workshop Planned with Canby Robertson - Thursday, October 15, 2026 10 AM - 5 PM. Cost is $75. Country House Retirement Community, 4830 Kennett Pike, Wilmington, DE 19807 in their Performing Arts Center (PAC).

There are so many ways one can use a lovely, decorated box. They make good gifts too. Canby Robertson is an experienced National EGA teacher and her classes and instruction booklets are well organized. We are pleased to offer a workshop with he
The kit will include the instruction book, pre-cut cardboard (12 pieces), batting and other assembly materials; students provide the fabric (two coordinating Fat Quarters or equivalent); sewing materials, paper and fabric scissors, Aileen’s Tacky Glue, and 48 spring-type clothes pins.
The class will be held in the Performing Arts Center (PAC) at the Country House. Plenty of room for you and friends but our limit is 30 spaces..
There is an on-site cafeteria where lunch can be purchased or you can bring your own bagged lunch.

Third Quarter 2026:
Tuesday, July 14, Needle weaving project. Decorate a twig or explore needle weaving on canvas or cloth. Bring your yarn and pearl cotton remnants and appropriately sized needles. We will have some twigs available but provide your own stretched canvas or cloth in hoop if you want to try a more traditional form of needle weaving.
Tuesday, August 11. Explore ‘Chicken Scratch’ on gingham fabric. Do a sampler or turn this into a potholder. Bring basic sewing supplies and hoop. We will provide the fabric and the DMC, but you are welcome to bring any you have to use.
Thursday, September 10. Stitch and Chat. Catch up with some unfinished projects.

Tuesday, March 17, 2026: Monthly activity at the Country House from 10-2. Learn some history behind penny rugs plus make a small one.

Thursday, May 14, 2026: Project learning how to do crayon transfer.
Wednesday, June 10, 2026: We will stitch an Or Nué design which is a goldwork technique that uses colored threads to couch metallic threads. Prior signup and payment for kit is required. Email egabrandywine@gmail.com if interested.

Forth Quarter 2025:
Wednesday, November 12th : We will hear Dr.Tricia Wilson Nguyen talk about her research on the Samplers of Nuremberg at 10:00 via Zoom. This very interesting lecture will discuss stories of the women in this city, which was a major printer of needlework pattern books in the 17th and 18th centuries.
Wednesday, October 8: We will meet at the Country House for the quarterly meeting and a workshop on making a Flame Stitch pincushion or name tag. Silks and needles will be provided. We are looking for linen fabric 24-26 count , each project needs an 8 x 8 piece. Members will need to bring a 6 inch hoop or stretcher bars. Cotton floss can also be provided by the stitcher if they have a specific color choice in mind.

Third Quarter 2025:
Wednesday, September 17. We continue work on our boros and make a booklet from our Zokin and the pages of the stitch sampler.
Tuesday, August 12. The EGA Study Box on Surface Embroidery will be the source for studying surface stitches beyond the running stitch. We will work on several pages of a stitch sampler.
Wednesday, July 16. We will learn about boro, a vintage Japanese mending technique that uses cloth patches and the running stitch to repair clothes, and will make a small version called a Zokin. These days the boro technique has become a way to do fiber art. Basic fabric and threads are provided. Bring your sewing equipment.
Second Quarter 2025:
June 10. A field trip to Blue Santa Beads in Media, PA to make a chatelaine and shop for special beads for our projects.
May 14. The program theme was ‘Pincushions’. Members brought unique pincushions for Show and Tell and then we all stitched on a design for a strawberry pincushion designed just for Brandywine.
April 10. Toni Gerdes spoke to us via Zoom about newer threads, embellishments, applique, needlefelting and other fiber techniques to use in our canvaswork. The Delaware panel of the America’s Tapestry was brought to the meeting.
First Quarter 2025:
March 12. We stitch a band sampler of various cross stitches which were taught as a THAP (Take home a project) at Camp Wannastitch. Most of us created a needlecase from this sampler.
February 3. We saw a Powerpoint presentation on the extensive needlepoint on view throughout the house of Christopher Lloyd, famous for the gardens he created at Great Dixter in England.
January 21. Mid-Atlantic Region Director Donna Pence visited the Brandywine Quarterly meeting and reviewed for the membership the various grants, scholarships and competitions available through National and MAR. We also heard about Camp Wannastitch and the plans for America’s Tapestry project.
